. . . be sure and safe

The safe and successful use of a chemical product for its intended purpose is based on two essential parameters:

  • its safe application performance determined by the physico-chemical properties and
  • its ecotoxicological and toxicological effects which should have the least possible effect on humans and  environment

Only the successful combination of both properties makes the product a competitive, sustainable and future-proof product!

Sustainability also includes the origin of the product. The use of biogenic (renewable) raw materials may lead to a significant reduction of the CO2 footprint of the product itself and of its use and may have a positive ecological impact.  Such products are produced in fermentation processes based on lignocellulose or crop waste as well as by complete hydrogenation of vegetable and animal fats.

The primary goal is to protect and safeguard the consumer, the user and the environment.

The challenge for producers of industrial and consumer products (materials, formulations and articles) is to choose those products from a wide range of raw materials that offer optimal and safe use to the customer requirements.

Various validation steps are necessary to ensure this:

  • continuous monitoring of technical, physicochemical and (eco)toxicological parameters for safe application and the respective conditions of use
  • assessment of the input materials and the finished product from a legal, occupational health and safety perspective (including fire and explosion protection)
  • monitoring of compliance with extensive regulatory requirements by legislators and industries (SVHC; CoRAP; endocrine disruptors, etc.)

The market launch of new products is subject to the very same evaluation mechanisms and additionally requires mandatory REACH registration for production or import into the EU. Whether a product registration makes  sense from an economic and technical point of view is determined by the marketability of the substance or product.

Due to the complexity of these tasks and their interdisciplinary requirements, cooperation with various supporting functions is necessary  and must be closely monitored and  coordinated.
